Gulp Data Year in Review and What to Expect in 2025

Dear Gulp Community,

As 2024 wraps up, I wanted to take a moment to share some of the incredible strides we’ve made together. Our journey at Gulp continues to be shaped by the promise of data as an asset and we are excited about what’s to come.

2024 at a Glance:

🚀 Data was a hot market…
⭐️ Surge in AI-Driven Data Startups' Fundraising

VC investments in AI-driven data startups increased by 22% year-over-year, reaching $5.3 billion globally. The U.S. and China remain the largest markets for these investments.

⭐️ Global M&A Activity in Data and Analytics

M&A activity in the data sector saw significant growth, with over $42 billion in deals reported by Q3 2024.

⭐️ Data Governance Market Growth

The global data governance market was projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21.8% and is estimated to hit $9.34 billion by the end of 2024.

⭐️ Cloud and Big Data Software Boom

Spending on cloud-based and big data software reached $21.2 billion in 2024, marking an 18% increase from the previous year.

🌍 Data Asset Market Trends & Inbound Demand

Top Categories in demand: Healthcare, financial transactions, and consumer behavior data.

  • Geospatial, AI/ML, demographic and contact data, and supply chain also emerged as growing areas of interest.

  • The US remains the dominant region, while Canada, the UK, France, and Germany also placed as top regions in developed markets.

  • APAC and LatAm are emerging as key markets with high demand, particularly India, Southeast Asia, Mexico, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia.

💡 Looking Ahead to 2025: M&A & Data as a Core Asset

As we enter 2025, we’re watching M&A activity closely. With pro-business policies set to roll out next year, we expect M&A to tick up. But here’s the critical insight: investment bankers and deal-makers who fail to account for the value of data may be leaving significant value on the table.

Why Data Valuation Matters:

  • Higher Deal Multiples: Buyers are prioritizing companies with well-organized, monetizable data.

  • Stronger IPO Performance: Companies with a strong data asset strategy attract more investor interest.

  • New Revenue Streams: DaaS creates new, high-margin opportunities.

  • Operational Efficiency: Proper data valuation enhances forecasting and decision-making.

The Bottom Line: Data is no longer just an operational asset—it’s the engine driving premium valuations, strategic M&A, and future-proofed companies. If you want to know what your data is worth click the button below.
